George
Kilibarda was born in Sittingbourne, Kent in 1954. He developed an
interest in art at an early age, encouraged by his family, teachers, and
friends. After attending various secondary schools, and the Kent Institute
of Design, Mr. Kilibarda relocated to Cardiff, South Wales, a community
with an established and diverse arts scene. He became seriously interested
in painting, and studied many internationally known artists whilst at the
Newport college of Art. He quickly adopted an original, recognisable
style, and began exhibiting at the Manor house Gallery. The first of these
works, "Treeplanting", remains in the Gallery collection.
Mr. Kilibarda began selling and exhibiting work more widely through a
variety of agents and galleries. He had his first one-man show at the St
David's Theatre, Cardiff in 1992. Later that year, he also had a number of
highly successful commissions, including large businesses and an
investment bank. Mr. Kilibarda's work is in many private and a number of
corporate collections in England, Wales, and abroad.
In 1993, Mr. Kilibarda was awarded a travel grant by the 'Welsh Arts
Council' to visit Bosnia as a war artist, work from which he exhibited
widely. He continued to paint privately commissioned works in his spare
time, between raising his children and working part-time in Local
government.
Towards the end of the decade Mr Kilibarda's focus turned to renovating a
dilapidated barn on a hill overlooking Cardiff. Together with his wife
Penny and two their daughters. Emily and Laura, they threw themselves into
the project.
The fruits of their labour can be viewed on a web site Mr Kilibarda
created as a present for his wife http://www.dovecotefarm.com
In 2001, while impressed by the increasing good quality video games were
achieving Mr. Kilibarda joined a large video game company and regularly
commuted to the Midlands.
In 2003 Mr Kilibarda decided to apportion his time between the Dovecote
small holding and his art.
